4. Well.. what can I say? It was difficult as a socially awkward introvert. I am trying not to think about what I said or did not say, but I am just glad I just bit the bullet and got it over with. All of the interactions went similarly, I would strike up a conversation with a compliment on someone’s outfit, or say something about the work in front of us, and I’d slowly start to ease into asking if they were artists themselves. Fortunately, everyone I talked to seemed nice and I got no nasty looks. For some reason, I always think I will get thrown tomatoes at when I try to talk to someone. I actually did meet another animator who made cute animated videos on YouTube, so I thought that was nice. I even had chill conversations with a couple of people who were not artists and were there visiting for the art. I’ve got some revisions to do when I try this again for the future.
5. Next time, I will try to go to an event specifically for animators, since it would definitely help in finding more like-minded people with experience in my career. It’s just that it has been super busy with my other classes and this assignment caught up to me quickly. I also had to visit a museum for another class, so I had to kill two birds with one stone. Another thing that I would try to do differently is talk to more people, I capped it off pretty quickly to get it over with. The final thing I would do differently is expand the types of people I talked to. I kept going for people who looked like students and did not get as out of my comfort zone as I would have liked.
